ToyBiz X-Force Wave 4 Black Tom (1994)
Black Tom Cassidy has been a thorn in the X-Men’s side for decades, best known as the criminal cousin of Banshee and a frequent ally of the Juggernaut. Originally a master of plant manipulation, Tom’s powers took a darker turn after his body became bonded with a synthetic wood compound that dramatically increased his ability to generate energy blasts. ToyBiz brought him into the X-Force Series 4 lineup in 1994, giving collectors a distinctive villain with a Power Bio-Blast action feature. The figure came with a projectile attached by a string, which could be launched by pressing the button on his back. It was a classic example of ToyBiz turning a character’s comic-book abilities into an interactive play feature, and Black Tom’s unusual history and striking design helped him stand out among the heavily armed soldiers and mutants in the X-Force assortment. For collectors, he’s a fun reminder that the line reached well beyond the team’s most recognizable heroes.
