ToyBiz Batman (1989 Movie) Wave 1 Bob the Goon (1989)
Not every memorable movie character gets a spot in an action-figure lineup, which makes ToyBiz’s decision to produce Bob the Goon one of the more amusing choices in its original 1989 Batman assortment. Played by Tracey Walter, Bob was the Joker’s loyal right-hand man in Tim Burton’s film, serving as the villain’s trusted assistant during his takeover of Gotham’s criminal underworld. ToyBiz gave Bob his own figure complete with a removable hat, a knife, and a pistol. His standout feature was a Power Kick action mechanism: press the lever on his back and Bob’s right leg would kick forward, giving the Joker’s number-one guy a way to fight Batman without relying entirely on his boss’s schemes. Bob may not have had the name recognition of Gotham’s major villains, but that is precisely what makes this figure so entertaining today. As the only action figure made of this particular movie character, he is an unusual collectible from the original ToyBiz line and a reminder that even a supporting character could earn a place on the toy shelves during the height of Bat-Mania.
